Question we are exploring: How can computers help us to communicate our ideas visually?
We have learned: How to efficiently use our number one input device, the keyboard.

Week 1:
Today we will learn how to edit and format text in a Google doc.
We are doing this so we can understand how to use text in our visual communications.
Next time we will learn how to add images.

1. Open Google Docs, give your document a name, and begin typing your quote. Don’t worry about formatting anything yet.
2. Make sure you press “Enter” to go to a new line and use “Shift” as needed for capitals. Use quotation marks at the beginning and end of your quote.
3. Click Edit > Select All, Click on center alignment button. Choose a new font while everything is still selected and make your text a larger size so that it fills more of the page.
4. At the end of class, just make sure that the top of the menu bar says "All changes saved" before closing the window. Google docs automatically save as you work.

Week 2:
Today we will learn how to add and format images to our Google docs
We are doing this so we can know how to manage images in a doc program.
Next time we are going to learn how to share a doc.

Inserting Images Step by Step
Text Boxes and Shapes Step by Step = How to add a drawing. This is how you get the words on top of the picture. Right click the picture > Order > Send to Back. Play with the Images Options.

Note: You can change the page orientation from Portrait to Landscape and change the background color in Page Setup under the File menu.

1. Open your work in your Google drive.
2. Open a new tab and do an image search for a picture to add to your poster. Click the picture you want to bring up the large preview and right click the picture and select "Copy Image URL".
3. Then go back to your document and select Insert > Image > By URL and paste (Command V) the copied address into the bar. Once it loads click "Select".
4. Click on the inserted image and change the text wrap in the box below it to "Wrap text" or "Break text".
5. Move the picture to your desired location on the page.
6. Change sizes, fonts, and colors to make your document just as you want. Add a page color if you would like.
7. At the end of class, just make sure that the top of the menu bar says "All changes saved" before closing the window.
8. Share your finished poster to edsmalling. Make sure you uncheck the "Notify via email" and that you have your room number in the title.
