typing and formatting poems in a Word document

 Goal: To learn how to edit and format text in a Word document and also how to insert pictures

Activity to review and practice skills in Word

Week 1:
1. Open Word and begin typing your poem. Don’t worry about formatting anything yet
2. Make sure you press “Enter” to go to a new line and use “Shift” as needed for capitals.
3. Click Edit > Select All, Click on center alignment button. Choose a new font while everything is still selected and make your text a larger size so that it fills more of the page.
4. At the end of class, save your work in the appropriate classroom folder.(File>Save>My Computer>Last thing on the list, the U drive>your grade level>your class.) Give it a NAME!

Week 2:
1. Open your work in your classroom folder.
2. Click Insert > Picture > Clip Art and choose an appropriate image to go with your poem.
Or...
If you want a picture, go on the internet and do an image search. Click the picture you want to see it full size and then right click the picture and select copy. Then go back to your document and select Edit > Paste (or Ctrl V)
3. Click on the inserted image and change the text wrap in the picture tool bar to square.
4. Move the picture to your desired location on the page.
5. Change sizes, fonts, and colors to make your document just as you want. Add a page border if you would like.
6. Save your document before closing.

Week 3:
1. Open your document and finish making editing and formatting changes.
2. Notify the teacher when you are ready to print. Then print.
3. If time allows pick a finished early activity.
